Question # 1

How do you know if you're really singing from your diaphragm?

This is one area of singing that causes alot of confusion because there are so many
conflicting answers.  But the simple fact is; you CAN'T control your diaphragm.  At least
not consciously.  The biggest mistake singers of all levels make is to try too hard to
"support" their voice with their abdomen, and end up sounding forced.  Just remember, a relaxed breath will cause your tummy to expand gently as you inhale, and you'll "go skinny" again as you let the air out.

All you need to do is use your breathing to keep you relaxed.  Whether you're singing high, low, loud or soft, just imagine that the sound is on a cushion of air and flows gently
out of your mouth.

Instead of taking big gulps of air (which causes tension), try just sipping the air.
You'll be amazed at how far a little breath will take you.

How will you know if you're doing it right?

Easy.  You will know by how you feel.  If the sound is coming out effortlessly and
any strain whatsoever, then you are doing it right.

For now, that is enough information to digest.  Check back a little later for the answers to  these questions:

How do I prevent a sore throat when I'm singing?
The "elevator technique" I'll tell you about  will help you immensely.

How can I sing louder without sounding awful or hurting my voice?
You'll need a complete change of thinking with this.  Follow this advice, and
you'll never have to strain for a stronger sound again.

And saving the best for last... the question everyone seems to ask most is...

How do I apply the techniques I'm learning to an actual song?
Soon I will show you many ways you can quickly improve the way you sound on any specific song you choose.   Remember to bookmark this page, and check back soon!
